WHO WILL WIN THE AFRICAN CUP OF NATION?
Egypt is the most successful team in the African Cup of Nations. The Pharaohs has a stellar record of seven championships, and from 2006 until 2010 They won threetournaments in a row. Once again, all eyes will be on legendary striker Mohamed Salah. He has enjoyed great success since joining Liverpool in 2017. However, Salah, known as the 'King of Egypt', is yet to win a major international trophy with Egypt.
Ivory Coast is set to host the latest edition of the African Cup of Nations in January, but who will rise as the continent's biggest competitor? The domestic club season may be in full swing, but the international festival will kick off the 2024 schedule. The West African nation was originally scheduled to compete in the competition in 2021 but had to wait another three years to host AFCON. The 2024 tournament will be held in Cameroon at six different stadiums including Abidjan, Bouake, Kollogo, San Pedro and Yamouscoro.
The draw for the tournament took place in October 2023, with teams divided into six exciting groups. Hosts Ivory Coast are in Group A along with Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
Egypt, looking to make amends for their last defeat two years ago, begins Group B matches against Ghana, Cape Verde and Mozambique. Meanwhile, in Group C, defending champions Senegal will begin their title defence against five-time champions Cameroon, Guinea and Gambia. Former Manchester City and Al Ahly striker Riyad Mahrez is probably one of the most prominent players to take part. He will captain the Algeria national team, who will face Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Angola in Group D.
